The federal regulations that show up most on exam day

Federal regulation questions are the most predictable points on the exam because the source material barely moves year to year.

Resident rights under 42 CFR §483.10 carry disproportionate weight. Know notice requirements for transfer and discharge, grievance handling, and access to records timelines.

Staffing and competency requirements under §483.35 are frequently tested through scenarios rather than recall — expect to be asked what an administrator does when coverage falls short, not what the number is.

Quality assurance and performance improvement obligations round out the set. If you can describe the QAPI cycle and who must sit on the committee, you have the points.
